I Want A Full-Body Check-Up

Everyone's getting more educated and informed nowadays. They know heart attacks, strokes and cancer are the major killers. They also know it is potential to detect determined conditions early, hence manufacture it potentially treatable. Breast cancer would be a good example. Mammograms have been able to pick up the disease at such an early stage that it is potentially curable. There is a good occasion now that if it is detected early, the outpatient is more likely to die of some unrelated cause. Early detection of other conditions, for example diabetes, allow rehabilitation , so preventing added complications of the disease.

In the old days, population only went to see the physician when they felt sick. Now they are starting to see the physician even when they feel well. They want to know if they have any risks for diseases , or if they are in the early stages of some diseases, where early rehabilitation can supervene in a cure. Hence, the birth of condition screening as an industry. In some countries, it's a business. You can buy condition screening packages, where tests are done on every part of you - blood samples, urine samples, stool samples can all be taken, and a scope can be stuffed into almost every orifice. all can be seen nowadays. Unfortunately, not all conditions can be detected early. And not all tests are equally good at detecting conditions. Some tests sold as part of a unblemished condition check-up may not necessarily exclude a condition, or reduce one's chances of dying if picked up. In fact, over-investigation may even lead to unnecessary added tests, procedures and a lot of anxiety.

Health Check

So who should do condition screening ?

I Want A Full-Body Check-Up

People with family histories of determined healing conditions should go before they fabricate symptoms. Eg, a strong family history of heart attacks, determined cancers. Most population above 40 should consider getting themselves checked at least once, and then maybe 3 yearly if no problems are detected.

Companies use condition screening to resolve if potential employees are suitable for the job. Others use it to resolve if their employees are still fit on the job. Some jobs can be risky for population with determined healing conditions ( would you precisely want a truck driver to have a history of uncontrolled fits?) , and other jobs can be risky for the worker's condition ( eg. Industries with machines that produce loud noises would need to ordinarily screen their workers for hearing problems).

So what about otherwise well population who are just worried and want to get tested, just to make sure ?

There are no hard and fast rules. In some countries, you pay the money, you get the test. No problem right ? Well, there are some things you may want to look out for before deciding to do the test.

Is the test safe ? Will it harm me ?
Colonoscopy ( a scope inserted up your rear end to check the large intestine) has a small risk of perforation or bleeding. Your physician needs to resolve the risks versus the benefits of the test.
A Ct coronary angiogram ( a scan of the heart arteries to see if they are blocked) has small risks when done on patients with determined healing conditions like kidney disease or asthma.

Is the test easy to do ?
Testing blood for high cholesterol or high sugar, is easy. So is a Pap smear for cervical cancer.

Is the test precise ?
No use doing a test if the results don't give you a good answer. Eg. The blood test for the cancer mark for colon cancer may go up in other healing conditions, or not be raised in early cancer. So a "normal" supervene doesn't mean anything. Neither does a "raised" result.

Pap smears, mammograms, tests for blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cholesterol are reasonably accurate.

Does the test make a difference?
Mammograms do detect breast cancer early adequate for treatment. Pap smears detect cervical cancer in its pre-cancerous stage. Cure rates are high. So the tests are worth doing.

What is the test trying to look for ?
Some population just want to have their whole body scanned in the hope of detecting some small tumour. It doesn't work that way. Perfectly healthy population may have variations in their organs, or benign cysts and growths. We don't all look the same inside. This may lead to unnecessary added tests, even operations, not to mention the terrible stress the outpatient has to feel while waiting for results.

So before you go for condition screening, ask you physician about the tests you are going to do. It's good to have more knowledge about your own body. And it helps if you can take steps today to prevent diseases. But you do need to understand what you are going to do.

I've summarised some of the tasteless condition screening tests ready and what they detect in my blog at http://www.whyhealthmatters.blogspot.com.

A Spiritual Check-up

Now is a great time for a self check-up. The new year is here and you have probably renewed your resolutions from last year. Why settle for failed resolutions again when you can have guaranteed results. The results I'm talking about are the ones that will take you to the next level of performance, promise and purpose.

Not another year of disappointment, defeat and disillusionment.

Health Check

This is not a physical or mental check-up, it is a check of your spiritual man to make sure that you are prospering eternally and externally in accordance to the promises and purpose of God.

Let's begin our spiritual check up by inspecting our fruit, this will be a major indicator of what is going great and where we need to change.

Then we'll look at how we can increase our efforts to get even better results throughout the year. Followed by identifying strategies to increase our fortitude, the inner strength we'll need to complete the journey we have before us.

God has assembled each of us here for his purpose and cause, in this specific time period and particular place. This cause is bigger than just your needs.

We should be sharing/sowing fruit daily, spurring each other towards love and good deeds. Some of our fruit are peace, love and forgiveness. The areas of life that we are responsible for sharing and showing others.

These are the tools that we have at our disposal to build bridges from us to other people so that God can come across.

If you harbor prejudice, hatred or have not forgiven someone then you are unable to bear fruit and you stand where you are today, because you have failed to fulfill your spiritual purpose and you should take a deeper look inside yourself, to determine why you are not progressing in this important area of life.

Having a brilliant career and a great personal life will seem unimportant if they are centered around emotional indulgence instead of spiritual progress.

How can one change their spiritual condition or situation?

First, let me warn you, that you can't reach any level of true spirituality without obeying the first tenet, which requires that you must be born again. Not just a mere spring cleaning but a rebuilding of the whole house.

Then it takes consistent and regular habits of prayer and meditation. I'm not talking about the habit that some have become accustomed too of pronouncing affirmations once or twice as if they were a magical incantation.

Could you practice on the piano occasionally and yet expect to be able to play well on any desired occasion?

To strengthen your spirit you need to build up a faithful daily habit of prayer and begin exercising a true love-consciousness, then the rest of the spiritual development will follow after that.

Some people pray only when they are in trouble or on their Sabbath and then, they find it hard to get any sort of meaningful results. Maybe you have heard the old adage, " little prayer, little power; much prayer, much power."

Sooner or later, through trouble or triumph, you will find the need to put God first in your life, but it must be the first thing. When this happens you will find that you have gotten rid of the mental junk that people try to carry around with them.

You'll spend less time pursuing material possessions and stuff, our artificial needs, things that don't really matter and only waste time and energy. Your life will become simpler and quieter, but spiritually richer and infinitely more worthwhile.

Dog Health - Why Your Dog Needs an Annual Checkup

A once a year visit to the vet is a must for a healthy dog. During this annual visit your vet will check your dog's heart rate, overall body health, perform a fecal and blood check to diagnose parasites, and keep your dog up to date on vaccinations. A simple annual visit to the vet may not seem like a very important aspect to your dog's health, but it is.

Early diagnosis of diseases like cancer, early detection of any abnormalities like heart murmurs, and vaccines which prevent fatal diseases will all help your dog to live a longer life. Many cancers today, which dogs suffer from, are now treatable if they are diagnosed early, and dogs with heart problems can take medication to help their heart function well for many years. The key is 'early diagnosis', and without an annual veterinarian examination a life threatening illness could be missed until it is too late to treat.

Health Check

Identifying illnesses

An annual veterinarian check-up will also help your veterinarian to identify any illnesses in your dog such as ear infections, eye infections, parasitic infections, bladder infections, or teeth problems. Missed infections can cause wear and tear on a dog's body, and if they progress serious damage to the body can occur. While these conditions are not always life threatening, they can stress the overall health of your dog and overtime harm your dog's health, immune system, and organ function. Continual stress from constant infections, or severe infections that are not treated, can reduce the longevity of a dog's life.

As comprehensive as you choose

A visit to the veterinarian can be as comprehensive as you want it to be. You can have the choice of just a short physical and vaccines, or you can have all the necessary tests performed to check the status of your dog's health. In order for your dog to remain healthy, it is highly recommended that you have a comprehensive physical performed each year in addition to blood, fecal, and urine tests.

Don't forget parasite controlDeaths caused by parasites are probably one of the most preventable causes of death in dogs. A high parasite load of worms and fleas can lead to malnutrition, reduced immune function, anemia, and poor health; the damage that these parasites can cause may reduce the longevity of a dog's lifespan overtime. In addition, parasites such as ticks and mosquitoes can transmit deadly diseases. The parasites that you will need to protect your dog from include: ticks, fleas, worms, and mosquitoes.

Mosquitos and Heartworms

Many pet owners do not realize that mosquitoes can infect dogs with deadly heartworms. When a mosquito bites a dog that carries heartworms the mosquito can then transmit those worms to another dog. More and more heartworm infections are a leading cause of early death in dogs throughout the states.

Heartworm disease can be treated in dogs, but the treatments are not without risks; some dogs have deadly reactions to heartworm treatment. In addition, a heartworm infection that has continued for a long period of time may have caused too much damage to the dog's health to treat. To protect your dog from the dangers of heartworms, always have a yearly test performed on your dog and keep your dog on a strict heartworm preventative regimen.

While tick diseases in some areas are rare, dogs that are exposed to ticks are still in danger of becoming infected with potentially lethal tick diseases. If you are in an area where your dog will be exposed to ticks, or you live in an area that has reported tick disease occurrences in dogs and people, it is essential that you keep ticks off of your dogs. There are products on the market today that will help to repel ticks from your dog, or that will kill the ticks once the ticks latch on to your dog's skin.
